Lana Del Rey signs to major label based on shit-score of YouTube views

We were pretty stoked when Lana Del Rey hit the scene with them rad vids for “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans” (good songs, too). Then we were mostly unimpressed (yawn) with her live showing on Jools Holland. And even more bored when she shrugged off a question about her background recently, “there’s really not that much to know.” Damn. We were hoping for something like, “I was a cheerleader in high school, then I got into a car wreck and when i woke up from a coma, all you people were looking at me like I was Thom Yorke and I just played ‘Creep’ for the first time.”

Also, Lana Del Rey remix mania is getting a little out of hand, which is usually a bad sign.

Anyway, Lizzy Grant (that’s Lana Del Rey’s birth name) signed to a big ol’ label today, Interscope Records. (Pitchfork) We doubt anyone there was (honestly, truly) impressed with her live presence or interview skills, but A) she’s cute and B) she done racked up mad YouTube views (almost 4 million for “Video Games” and 1.5 million for “Blue Jeans”). And really, in 2011, what more do you need? Ask the Cults who “didn’t really do anything” to end up on a major label.

We’ll take bets on Lana Del Rey’s new album (due in early 2012). We’re expecting 10 songs (including “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans”). We’re expecting it to be 41 minutes long. We’re expecting it to be self-titled. And we’re expecting the cover to have some press image that’s already being commonly used.
